Ka-ching!

My Precious
June 15, 2004, Tuesday

Unlike any other Tuesdays, I went to 1 Utama (the largest shopping mall in the area) to stock up on essentials the like of cereal, milk, cookies, chocolate bars and chewing gums. Most of the time, I've only an hour to do my grocery due to transportation reasons. I was so engrossed in reading Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven in the bookstore earlier today that I missed the bus back to the hostel (see Papa, a car does come in handy! wink, wink). Some of my friends had been planning to watch The Day After Tomorrow but I didn't want to join them because according to the reviews, the flick was a flop. The bus having gone without me, I joined my chums and gave the movie a go.

The natural disaster flick wasn't that terribly disastrous as it turned out; the folks at Rotten Tomatoes were too harsh on it, I think. The visual effects were effectively deployed and it actually had a decent plot. The people behind the film were wise not to bank too much on looks alone by adding depth to the movie. Though you have to admit that the journey of one father to New York to save his son was rather pointless. There was this guy in the movie who looked familiar; I knew I'd seen him somewhere but I just couldn't place him. A quick check at IMDB did the trick. Jake Gyllenhaal; he was in October Sky, one of the best story-driven movies around.

As I'd nothing better to do, I checked out the Top-250-Movies-of-All-Time list too at IMDB. The sad truth dawned on me; I haven't watched 90% of what's on the list. That brings me to another disheartening revelation; I haven't been able to read all the good books of all time. I would really love to watch every single movie ever made and read every book ever written and write reviews about them. If you're an editor, take note: I'm willing to write reviews for free (perhaps, a little something in return will do: I would love to keep those books)!

On a more cheerful note, I've a wonderful collection of music, a total 1000++ of songs. The best part is I've them by my side at all time! Can't really live without my beloved (pictured above) nowadays; I have to admit that the iPod has been the most worthwhile purchase I've made. I knew this entry would be a funny read someday.
