Ka-ching!

August 21, 2004, Saturday

My term break is coming to an end. Sigh~ I'm going to miss home. Well, not exactly, but I'm sure going to miss the freedom to do anything I want. A typical day in my life for the past week had been:

10:30 AM- Rise and shine (Oh Mum, do I have to wake up this early?)
10:40 AM- Chooses a nice spot in front of the TV with a glass of milk in hand.
12:00 PM- Can't... seem... to... get... away... from... bloody...TV... arg (picks up remote attempting to switch TV off)... ooo, gals in gymnast suit spinning and hopping... pretty... (continues watching Huang Shanshan doing her routine).
1:30 PM- After one too many "Later, Mom!"s, Mother shoves lunch into hand. Eyes now glued on gals in swimming suit splashing across pool (so, that's why the pool I frequent is more crowded than usual; can't blame them for wanting to flaunt body under the notion that swimsuits do make one look a notch sexier).
3:00 PM- Clicks through cyberspace on super slow dial-up.
3:05 PM- Checks on number of Nice People who have left a comment on blog.
3:10PM- Checks on blog again; no additional comment. Suspects that the number of Nice People on Planet Earth is dwindling.
4:00PM- Convinced that Nice People are near extinction. Sulks and continues on a clicking dial-up paced rampage across cyberspace.
7:30PM- After-dinner TV.
9:15PM- Speeds across town to fetch brothers from tuition classes (see photo).
9:30PM- Curses brothers for making me miss a good part of favourite show.
1:30AM- Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? Oh well, to bed I go!

Judging from my routine, it's not hard to guess that I've done nothing much during the hols. Darn, haven't even started on my Personal Statement for UCAS application. Bloody TV is just so addictive (mind you, I don't even have satellite TV). With the Olympics on almost every channel I turn to, there's no boring moments on TV land. Have preference for gymnastics, swimming, badminton and sometimes basketball. Yeah, you guys heard about Yao Ming being pissed off with his Chinese team mates after losing to Argentina? Can't blame the big guy; the Chinese team is terrible without him. China isn't that pleased with his "disobedience" though, and is bent on restricting Chinese players to the States lest its once "obedient children" get corrupted.

I got to watch Singapore Idol too. The judges are really funny (without resorting to the slapstick like sticking pencils into your nose and ears, I'm glad to say); they're witty and their critisms are biting. There are 4 of them instead of the more common 3: Dick Lee is the Simon Cowell of the panel; Florence Lian is the only lady judge but is by no means, nice Paula Abdul; Douglas Oliveria is the cool dawg, while Ken Lim, the uptight of them all, gives sound advice and expects contestants to follow what he says. I'm still fond of Malaysian Idol though despite its many flaws. I mean, it's only on Malaysian Idol that you get to see people juggling between two languages with ease, in this case English and Bahasa Malaysia. For the record, I voted for bubbly Dina on yesterday's show.

If only I could vote on this other show: The Amazing Race; I would have voted to keep Charla in. To my great dismay, Charla and her cousin were eliminated from the race. Not many people like them, probably because of obnoxious Mirna, the cousin. By all accounts, Charla is one of the best TV personalities that has ever graced our screen. Oh Charla, why do you have to go?
