Watching Jackie Chan's newest flick New Police Story brought back fond memories. When I was younger, Chan's movies would often be released to coincide with Chinese New Year; his films were almost part and parcel of the New Years. Spearheaded by this youngest-in-the-family uncle of mine, my counsins and I would throng the local cineplex to watch Cheng Long (Jackie Chan) in action. Those were the good days; no AS examinations to worry about. You see, in a couple of weeks, I'll be sitting for one part of my A Level exams.
I"ve digressed. Back to the movie: I have mixed feelings about New Police Story. The action sequences were to die for and the cinematography was just excellent. Kudos too to the visual effects team. However, I couldn't help but feel that something was missing. Moviegoers who are accustomed to Jackie Chan's slapstick kung-fu style comedy may be disappointed; the comic relief baton was passed to his co-star Nicholas Tse, whom IMHO, would suit the role of the villain better.
In the movie, Jackie played an over sappy senior inspector. He cried too much and was bordering on being hysterical. His character also failed to exude the "depth" he was supposed to have. Those are minor peeves; all in all, New Police Story is action-packed, funny (and sappy at times), and definitely something you wouldn't want to miss watching.
Digressing again, you wouldn't want to miss this cool time-lapse car trip music video too. Also, Bill Gates, despite the rumours, is still the richest man, according to Forbes magazine. Take that, Ingvar Kamprad! The funny thing is, I love Ikea but not Microsoft. It seems to me that I'm not the only one not pleased with Service Pack 2; Rachel of Brownglasses has this to say.
