Ka-ching!

August 11, 2005, Thursday

Doesn't the clear blue sky make you wish that the bloody haze will go away? The haze has gotten so bad that a state of "haze" emergency has been delcared in certain parts of the country.

The way I see it, life is like a ferris wheel. Somewhat like a box of chocolates as well, but definitely a ferris wheel. That boring ride that takes you on up-and-down cycles is indeed an imitation of life at work.

I remember my first ride on a ferris wheel. I was hanging onto the little bars that seperated myself and the fall to my doom with a blend of excitement and trepidation as I was moving upwards. Before long, I was at the top, which, to say honestly, wasn't what it was cracked up to be. No wide open vista, a glimpse of heaven and its supposed nude lady dwellers or anything like that. People looked rather small from up there though. Even so, the trip down to the bottom wasn't all that exciting. I mean, if it wasn't that exciting up there, there was no way I could have liked it down there. The eventual trip up and down was a bore, to say the least.

Life takes you up and down as well; you rise to glory and fall from grace. It's all around us; the amazing ascent of Atkins Nutritionals and its eventual spiral downwards is one prime example. And I used to be a straight-A's student.

Now, if there's one thing I hate about losers who are no longer on top is their harping on past glories. I hear them all the time and they piss me off to no end:

  • I used to be so good at Economics. And to which I say: you got a B for that, you dumbass.
  • The Chinese has more than 5000 years of history and invented this and that; is that so? Stop ripping off people's ideas then!
  • Islamic scholars of yore influenced western mathematicians and such; Well, I hate to break it to you, but who now has to learn Math and Science in English?
  • I say mean things because I care. Talking about the past is only going to make you look like a bigger idiot. You were great, what happened? People are going to say. So please, for the love of God and yourself, live in the now and move on with the ride.
