1/25s | f3.5 | 27mm | A waiter under Lloyd's Lutine Bell.
The Lutine Bell stands in the middle of Lloyd's Underwriting Room. Ages ago, it was rung by the waiter (so called because Lloyd's started in a coffee shop) when the fate of a ship "overdue" at its destination port became known- two for good news, one for a downer.
Right opposite the Bell is the Loss Book on which the waiter would write, with a quill, the details of the ship which has sunk. The Titanic was insured by Lloyd's and the page on which the "loss" was recorded used to be on display but has since been kept somewhere for posterity. Insurance can be interesting, no?
