I waited the whole of last Friday for a phone call that never came. That was the cause of the weekend funk which would have extended infinitely if I hadn't received the call today.
At long last, one rejection after frustrating rejection later, I have secured a summer internship! Best part is I would be working in a relatively new team on special purpose entities. SPEs are used traditionally to finance temporary projects - big budget Hollywood films, for instance. In the event that the movie flops, the film studio would not be adversely affected as the SPE would assume responsibility for the financial fallout. They gained notoriety after the Enron scandal and from the little chat I had with one of the interviewers, the bank does research on SPEs before recommending them as investments to clients. Totally cool work.
Now, on to the perfunctory Oscar-acceptance speech-like speech: I would like to thank my parents who have been very supportive, my brother who has been praying for me and God, in whom I have regained faith. Since I'm on a roll, I guess this is as good a time as any to formally announce my intention to... (for readers who can't see the acceptance speech video, right at this point, the orchestral music to signal that my time on stage has come to an end begins and I feign surprise ala Al Gore).
